Spyderco began marking the type of blade steel used on their blades beginning in approximately 1992. The first G-2 marked CoPilots used the same integral backspacer and lock spring that had been used on the brass-lined CoPilots. The brass liners were abandoned in favor of all-stainless handle scales, and the scales on the early G-2 marked knives were fairly thick. A second version of the G-2 marked knives was made and is distinguished by the presence of a separate backspace and lock spring. The stainless handle scales are also somewhat thinner than those on the integral lock spring knives.
