The Avalanche features tactical styling with the patented SpeedSafe assisted opening system for easy, one-handed deployment. It has a premium-quality CPM440V drop-point blade (straight or partially serrated) for cutting power and control. It also sports an aggressively textured G-10 handle for a super-secure grip. G-10’s high tensile strength makes it virtually unbreakable. It also offers excellent thermal insulating qualities and performs well even in high humidity. A secure liner lock keeps the blade safely in place. For easy carrying, both Avalanche models include a stainless-steel pocket clip that can be adjusted for tip up or tip down carry.

As far as I know, the steel in no longer in production. It is also known as S60V. It has a higher vanadium content than S30V, making it more wear resistant. Some people find it difficult to sharpen, but I’ve not had that problem when using diamond hones. Personally I love the stuff. If it wasn’t for S90V, it would be my favorite steel in the Military.
